Every year, thousands of Nigerian women and babies face life-threatening complications due to barriers in accessing timely Maternal and Neonatal Assistance especially in hard-to-reach and underserved areas. Central Dispatch Platform (Core of the System)

At the heart of the SAVEMAMA solution is a web-based dispatch platform that receives all maternal and neonatal transport requests, coordinates responses, and manages the end-to-end dispatch process. Once a request enters the platform, the system immediately initiates dispatch coordination by alerting registered Transport Operators and Health Facilities (HFs).

The dispatch platform supports:

  • Real-time visibility of all Incoming requests.
  • Immediate matching requests to the Transport Operators available.
  • Auto-generation of a unique dispatch code for tracking and payment purposes.
  • Instant escalation and fallback routing if no Transport Operator responds within 60 seconds.
  • Logging and timestamping of every action for monitoring and claims processing.

USSD (Entry Point for Public Users)

To ensure inclusivity and reach, the SAVAMAMA system uses a toll-free number and dedicated USSD short code that enables users to initiate an transport request from any mobile phone, without requiring internet access. The USSD menu is simple, fast, and multilingual, allowing users to select their language and request type. Once submitted, the request is automatically pushed to the central dispatch platform for immediate action.

Key features include:

  • Support for English, Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo.
  • Menu prompts for request type.
  • Manual location capture.
  • Phone number capture.
  • Integration with the dispatch platform.

In addition, the SAVEMAMA dispatch system would be managed by trained Community based dispatchers who can initiate dispatch requests on behalf of beneficiaries.

Once a dispatch is accepted:

  • The system matches the responding Transport operator to the request.
  • Sends dispatch details (including location, contact number, and code) to all parties involved.

If no response is received within 60 seconds, the system initiates a robocall to transport operators to inform them of the need for immediate human intervention. This escalation process ensures that no response goes unanswered, even if initial responders are unavailable or unresponsive.

Once the trip is completed, a digital voucher would be issued to the Transport Operator who redeems it using the USSD code *3581* voucher number #, which instantly:

  • Verifies completion of the trip,
  • Logs the timestamp of arrival,
  • And triggers a payment for service credit to be assigned to the Transport Operators for payment.
